We aim for inclusivity. Staying in the locality is crucial to the club’s identity, we believe that expansion of Stamford Bridge to a 55,000 seater stadium is feasible, and we await the club’s further views on this together with those of Hammersmith & Fulham Council and the board of Chelsea Pitch Owners.
However, if this is not achievable and Chelsea FC can prove that all possibilities of expansion have been exhausted, and negotiate a relocation to somewhere within the historic boundaries of the club (Earl’s Court/Battersea) we would support it wholeheartedly.
Our Vision
To remain at Stamford Bridge and see it developed into a 55,000 seater stadium, with the assistance of input from our fanbase. If this is not viable, then to build a new 55,000 seater stadium within 3 miles of Stamford Bridge, but we’ll cross that Bridge when we come to it.
What’s in a Name?
Chelsea FC should be able to sell out a 55,000 seater stadium for all the major games at current price levels. However, other matches could provide opportunities for families to attend at discounted levels, hopefully creating a future generation of fans. Such occasions will also cater for overseas visitors for whom a trip to Stamford Bridge is now as much a part of visiting London as a trip to Buckingham Palace.
The number “55” is also historically symbolic for the club, 1955 being the year in which the Chelsea FC won its first Championship.
